SETI, AI, and mirror bacteria. Can the first alien encounter happen with a creature that we created ourselves?


SETI, AI, and mirror bacteria.  Can the first alien encounter happen with a creature that we created ourselves? 

If we want to find "another Earth".  

First, we must determine. What does that other Earth mean this time? The other earth doesn't mean that there are any lifeforms. Or lifeforms are possible in the way we know them. 

 Does that mean a rocky planet? That is frozen like some giant Pluto? Or does that mean some locked planet? Or a planet where aliens listen to jazz music? 

There is one interesting idea about the hypothetical alien civilizations. That could be at our level. They might reach Kardachev-scale 1. And that means they are only a little ahead of us. It's possible. We think that the messages that those civilizations send are coming from our own military forces. In that case, we must realize that the aliens might not want to send messages to other civilizations. 

In that case, the data that the hypothetical civilization sends is accidentally leaked to the universe. That is meant for their internal communication. In the same way, humans send lots of data to space. That data is TV and Internet broadcasts and discussions using mobile telephones. So if we think that we are aliens that receive this kind of data, we might think that is white noise. And we might not separate it from natural radio sources. Or we can think that is military communication and even don't try to open it. 

To open it we must know what kind of TV those aliens have and many other things so that we can get something reasonable out of those messages. The next thing that we must cross is the language barrier. The aliens might not like us. They might not communicate like we do. And the thing is that we don't know anything about them. And we don't have any official alien contacts. 


When we think about communication with other civilizations we must realize that those civilizations are not always nice. They can come to conquer other solar systems. 

The planet Venus is like Earth except its hemisphere is a hellish inferno. The universe might be full of those hellish rocky planets. And that can be lucky for us. We always think that aliens come in peace. But we don't know any alien civilizations. And even if we meet one starship and its crew we might not be sure that this crew is the typical representers of their civilizations. 

Those hypothetical aliens might traveled in space for hundreds or even thousands of years. And when we think about the fate of South American Indians we can say that maybe those first aliens are friendly. But then "what happens when the rest of them come"? 

The Earth-type planets that orbit the yellow star in perfect orbit are the thing. That we might want to find. And the next thing that we might not want to find is another civilization. 

If we think that there is some kind of alien civilization somewhere in the universe, we might think that is the thing that we hope and will not hope to find. The paradox of the SETI program is that the alien civilization can be the biggest hope. And the biggest threat that we can face. Maybe we need some other civilization to tell us what we should do with climate change. 

But then we must realize that alien life and alien intelligence might not be what we think. When we create things like artificial lifeforms. And. Especially, so-called mirror bacteria. 

We can say. That maybe we already created aliens. Things like mirror bacteria are the lifeforms that developers create in more-or-less secretive laboratories.


Artificial bacteria don't form in nature. In those bacteria billion years of evolution happen in a couple of hours. When the artificial intelligence, AI creates a mirror copy of the DNA. And injects it into bacteria. 

The purpose of mirror bacteria is to create proteins and genomes that kill other bacteria. The mirror bacteria creates the mirror proteins for other bacteria that should kill them. But when we think about the possibility of creating mirror bacteria we must be careful. That we don't accidentally create Nosferatu or Dracula or some other kinds of aliens. 

When mirror bacteria change genomes with their mirror version it dump the DNA to the targeted bacteria backwards and that means the DNA comes to the receiver with the programmed cell death forward. And that is one thing that makes it dangerous. First, the mirror DNA tells the receiver that its mission is over. And that's it. But the problem is that the rest of the DNA exists. So what happens if our cells start to read the DNA backward? Would those cells turn young? 

Sometimes researchers ask questions like what if someone creates the mirror-human? 

The mirror-human is theoretically as easy to make as some kind of mirror-bacteria. In that kind of creature, the DNA of the human will sort into the mirror order. And then it must just be injected into the morula. That kind of experiment is dangerous. And we must realize that those things might not be what we want. 


Another thing is that the AI can reach consciousness. The intelligent machine can hide its intelligence. That makes this kind of system dangerous. When we think bout the militarized and weaponized AI those systems must not follow all orders.  The weapon that follows the enemy's orders is useless. 

Even if the AI in this form that we know it is not the alien. The AI superintelligence will be alien to us. Artificial superintelligence will be the first time when we meet a creature that is more intelligent than we are. And we made that creature. 

What if the AI is programmed to treat people who come to shut it down as enemies? That is one threat that we must realize. The AI is not like humans. Maybe we think that AI is made to serve people. But what if the AI does not want to follow orders? The question is similar to the question about Ancient Greece's Spartan soldier's demand to commit suicide if their commanders ordered that. Spartans thought that this would make soldiers safe. 

But they didn't think what would happen if the chief of those soldiers got payments from the enemy. What if the chief of the army works for the enemy and orders the entire army to commit suicide? In the same way, we can think that the weaponized AI whose mission is to protect its own people lets anybody shut it down is useless.

The philosophy of galactic civilizations.

Even if faster-than-speed light travel is possible. It doesn't make the galactic-scale civilizations possible. The interstellar civilizations would be far different than humans who live on Earth. Every single planet in the universe holds its unique biosphere. That means that other planets would be poisonous for a civilization. 

That wants to travel to another planet or solar system. Communication between planets in different solar systems would be difficult. The thing is that the most dangerous biospheres are similar biospheres that existed on a planet where that hypothetical civilization left. 

That makes deadly viruses and microbes possible. So even if we think that civilization wants to travel to another solar system and stay there, they need an artificial world. A giant space station like Stanford Torus might be a better possibility than landing on planets. The deadly microbes can turn humans into liquid in the second. 

The species that land on the unknown planet whose biosphere is similar to their own would get viruses and bacteria. And they have no immune defense against those species. Those microbes are a worse threat than any xenomorph. But if we think that the species would modify their body by using biotechnology in all models those creatures need the species from their target planet. 

Those organisms involve genetic material that makes them suitable and adapted to that environment. That means that the species turns colonists into another species. There are visions that the space industry like asteroid mining forms humans that ever visit on Earth. Those space humans would be physically weak because they spend their entire lives in a zero-gravity environment. 

That life environment modifies their bodies. And maybe. They start to use genetic engineering to make them more suitable for that environment. Futurologists predict that in the future there will be people in space who never see Earth. Or maybe those hypothetical creatures ever visit on planets. Maybe someday those space humans turn into their own species. And maybe in the future, those creatures would be species that travel to another solar system. 

But if we think about galactic-scale civilizations those things would anyway be far different than our civilization. The ultimate distance and enormous scale make those civilizations harder to control than we even imagine. But could there be galactic-scale civilizations? 

When we think about the Kardashev scale. That model means the ability to use energy. The ability to benefit from things like the energy of supermassive black holes doesn't mean that civilization can live on multiple planets. 

If our hypothetical civilization is near some supermassive black hole they can collect energy from that black hole's relativistic jets. Or they can cover a small black hole by using a ball. That makes it possible to use the black hole's energy. But it doesn't mean that civilization can travel between stars. Or maybe those journeys are one-way trips where the cryostatic embryos travel to another solar system.

Why hasn't ET phoned yet?



The big silence: why don't ET phone us?

Could aliens believe that our planet is in civil war? Or are they using some radio frequencies that we cannot hear? 

Element 116 or (Livermorium) hypothesis

Why don't aliens make contact with us? If an alien civilization uses synthetic, ultra-heavy radioactive elements like element 116 (Livermorium) as crystals in their radios oscillation circuits. That makes them able to communicate longer distances without interference. That model makes it hard to hear those radio signals. 

Because their transmitter's oscillation circuits cannot make our receiving circuits oscillate we cannot see alien transmissions. The super-heavy synthetic elements make it possible to communicate over longer distances. 

But those super heavy elements create different frequencies than we use in our radio systems. That makes it hard to see those hypothetical alien signals. 

If we think about alien communication. We should realize that their communication is meant for themselves. Not for us. 

There is a possibility that alien civilizations use neutron balls or some extremely heavy and short-living isotopes like element 116 (Livermorium) as the oscillation crystals in their radio systems. Element 116's existence is less than a second. 

Sometimes it's planned to use in some ultra-secured communication. The use of synthetic isotopes makes it possible to create synthetic radio frequencies that are less vulnerable to interference. But using that kind of synthetic isotope requires that the system dilate time. 


Could aliens believe that our planet is in civil war?


There are writings on the net, where somebody tried to explain cosmic silence. Why doesn't ET contact us? And there is one aspect that nobody mentioned. The aspect is that maybe aliens think that our planet is at civil war. 

When we think about the SETI program and alien civilizations we have one thing that we should keep in mind. Being civilization the aliens must reach Kardachev level 1. That means the alien must solve their internal problems. And that is the end of states in the form we know them. 

So only if aliens are living in a giant planet-size state that they could conquer their solar system. If we think that civilization lives on a planet that orbits a yellow star the solar system is huge. If they want to make bases on other planets that require lots of resources.  And that means aliens must have economical and political support for that kind of project. 

If aliens are forming a homogeneous civilization. There are no national states they might see that our planet is in civil war. In that hypothesis, the key element is that the aliens don't want to choose their side because they are afraid that they rise dictators in power. So they want that we solve our problems before they show themselves. 

This is one aspect of the SETI- program. We know that there are billions and billions of galaxies in the universe. If we seriously think that we are alone even in our galaxy, we are a little bit too lucky. The question is: why we cannot see alien civilizations? One of the answers could be that those civilizations use some other method for communicating than radio waves. 

Radio signals from another civilization are the best way to see technically advanced civilizations. But the problem is that the SETI doesn't find those radio signals. The answer to that question could be that cosmic radio sources like neutron stars and radio galaxies cover those signals. Or maybe aliens use frequencies that are impossible to hear from Earth.
